The 2026 DataSHIELD conference will take place 6th-9th October, Liverpool UK. Event website coming soon.

Hi Tristan, we plan to have a priority abstract review for those that may require a visa to participate in the conference this year. Deadline for abstracts will be in April. We are just finalising details of our special sessions and will open abstract submission in the upcoming 2 weeks, with registration opening shortly afterwards. Our abstract submission is an online form. Abstracts are limited to 300 words and there are a range of formats (talk, software / product demo, poster, panel discussion). Please keep an eye for further conference announcements here in the forum or on the LinkedIn page.

Will there be workshops (e.g. for beginners)?

Hi Andrei

Becca did put the link to the conference meetings a while back in the DS community calendar – no one has attended so far.

There will be 2 workshops as usual running parallel – If I remember correctly there will be a combined introduction from Tim then the workshops will split into DS users and DS deployers.

I understand that there are some Diversity Scholarships available. Someone has approached me to say that they are unable to access the form:

Thanks for highlighting this.

I’ve double-checked the form settings, and anyone with the link should be able to access it. The settings haven’t been changed.

I’ve also tested the form externally on Safari, Edge and Chrome, on both mobile and laptop, and it seems to be working as expected.

I’m currently on annual leave, but I’ll check everything again when I’m back next week.

In the meantime, if they’re still experiencing problems, could they email me directly at sian.cunningham@liverpool.ac.uk with a screenshot of the error they’re seeing, along with details of the browser and device they’re using? That should help me investigate and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Hi Sian, thanks, it seems to be working now. Although I see the deadline was 20 July, so maybe that’s why it wasn’t working yesterday. Has the deadline been extended?

I’m glad it’s working now.

The form itself has always been set to close at 11:45pm BST on 31 July. The 20 July date was the original application deadline, but this was subsequently extended.

I’ve now updated the wording on the form to reflect the revised deadline, so it matches the closing date.
